The Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed that at least 52 patients from the Arkansas Cancer Institute are positive for a new bacteria named FVL-2018-32.
This bacteria does not spread from person-to-person contact. The outbreak has been linked to the saline flush process Arkansas Cancer Institute utilized to clean intravenous ports used to administer medication or for drawing blood samples from cancer patients.
The Arkansas Cancer Institute identified more than 100 patients at risk for infection, and many have been treated with extremely powerful antibiotics. Three patients have died. If you or someone you know has been treated at the Arkansas Cancer Institute in Pine Bluff between March 22 and September 11 of this year, seek medical help immediately.
